Regarding the deficit crisis, I've been thinking about this for some time and I guess it's on every ones mind. How do we as people really fix the situation? The first step is to stop depending on our elected officials to do it. The American people need to take matters into their own hands. Instead of contributing our money to people assisting them as they run for public office (they don't do anything but collect a pay check), we need to think outside of the box. It's called giving but not to the elected officials. We need to set up a funding program which will allow the public to give funds specially for a bail out. We give our money to different charities, i.e., churches, college grants, etc. Why not use personal funds to "BAIL THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OUT" of the deficit crisis?
Regarding the deficit crisis, there is no fix at this point. Not one which would involve a financial recovery. America's brand of capitalism is inherently self-defeating. it cannot be sustained. The current crisis is just the inevitable consequence of the unwise combination of fractional reserve banking and fiat currency. In such a system as ours, to quote the excellent documentary "Zeitgeist" --- "money is debt. Without debt, there would be no money."
At this late stage of the game, even if both the government and the citizenry stopped borrowing money to maintain our current standard of living [as probable as pigs flying], it is too late to save this sinking ship.
But, that is actually a good thing --- good for the family of man. America going broke would mean America could no longer afford to wage wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and clandestinely in Somalia. America going broke would mean America could no longer fund and arm the zionist state of Israel.
But, of course, we all know America is not sane enough to just say no to debt. Hence, we will continue to borrow, borrow, borrow until the Good Ship of State is completely submerged.
And, from there, Mother Gaia, and the non-European world, will breathe a deep sigh of relief.
“The subjects of every state ought to contribute towards the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they respectively enjoy under the protection of the state."
- The Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith, 1776
Did You Know?
In 2011, Americans will devote 2 hours and 13 minutes of every eight-hour workday, over a quarter of their working hours, to paying taxes. In a nine-to-five workday, it takes until 11:13 a.m. to earn enough to pay that day's share of taxes at the federal, state and local level. If we add the federal deficit to the picture—that is, if the federal government were planning to collect enough in taxes during 2011 to finance all of its spending—Americans would work until lunchtime for the government.
